BATC Prerequisite: Effective 9/20/07

Post by Erik » Thu Sep 20, 2007 11:39 am

BATC is a "Basic" course, but it is also very challenging. Over the past year I've had inquiries from players who want to make BATC their first ever Airsoft event. Experience has shown me that someone who had never played Airsoft before is not ready for BATC, and to allow them to attend is doing them a disservice by setting them up for failure.

Effective immediately, recruits who do not have adequate Airsoft experience will not be allowed to register for BATC. This will be decided on a case-by case basis.

This requirement is waiverable in certain circumstances, taking into account a players' maturity and other life experience (for example, military veterans, other wargaming experience, or recommendation from an MAA member).

If anyone has any questions about this policy, please ask me.

A 2013 cycle is possible but as yet has not been confirmed. There are people working on it.
There will be a date posted publicly if/when those organizing it can secure everything they need.
So be patient. The folks that are trying to put this together want it to happen just as much (possibly more so) as you want it to.

As for eligibility...It is decided on a case-by-case basis.
That said, if you've never been to an actual organized airsoft event, then you're not likely to be approved for BATC.

That sucks then. This will be my second year, but I have never been to an actual organized event. Otherwise it's just 12 people rambling around the woods in my friends neighborhood in Brooklyn Park.

The next cycle won't occur at least until this fall. You have plenty of time to get in enough games.

Few questions about the games now. First what is the best place in the metro. Valued by both price and quality. Second will they Chrono my gun there and if so will they take an average or if it is close will they accept it. (My gun shoots somewhere around 350-370 fps. Also what is typical price at the airsoft facilities

Oh GOOD, you're playing ILLEGALLY!
Well if you're lucky, you won't get arrested (or shot) by the BP police.

BATC is really not intended for new players who have very little experience playing in larger, organized, games. It will also be much easier to do well in BATC if you have played in several games run by the MAA and are familiar with our rules and equipment requirements.

So, my best recommendation to you is to forget about BATC for a year or two, and come out and play a little. You can find lots of info on games in the Minnesota area here: viewforum.php?f=90 and plenty of info about our rules in other places around these forums. Just search around a little.

I didn't mean BP I'm stupid. I don't know why I thought of that. But the woods isn't owned by anyone I believe. It is in his backyard. Doubt that is illegal. not sure

I assure it owned by someone, private citizen, city, county, or state. It is definitely owned.
As for the legality...If it is within city limits it's illegal. If you're on the land w/o consent of it's owner(s) then it's illegal.

Just saw some advertising for my local paintball field. Turns out they have an airsoft field as well this year. By next year (assuming that BATC is going to be open) getting about 10+ games in would be suffiecant right? It isn't MAA organized or anything but it is all MAA rules.
