ESS VS Revision (Goggles)

Post by EMO » Tue Jul 26, 2011 3:07 am

So I recently received my pair of ESS goggles. There really nice and I love them, I like to wear them around my house for S&G's.

While i was looking at some things online for them such as lense replacements, I found this brand called revision. They both have striking similarities. Almost 100% identical.

ESS price tags are a bit higher if you don't look in the right places. My question is whats the difference? Though I do notice ESS on more military surplus and firearms supliers websites while revision is on a lot of the airsoft websites.

The difference is that they are two separate companies.
Both make very high quality eye Pro.

I use ESS but I think Revision will be my next purchase for goggles.
...And just an FYI Revision has a 5 year contract with the Canadian Military to supply their land forces with protective eyewear... so the revisions are military just like ESS
The only reason Revision hasn't had the opportunity to supply the US military with goggles(not that I know of anyways) is because ESS has the contract.

Why would you buy the Revision goggles when they're like double the cost of the ESS?

Just curious.

ESS Was the primary, and sole, provider of authorized (APEL) eyeware for the military.

There are now 2 or 3 companies (at least) that produce protective eyeware for the military, ESS and Revision are both on the list. I was issued ESS with my initial issue and then received Revision with my pre-deployment issue.

Now, since I was setup with ESS I did not use my Revision downrange (plus i had a pair of turbofans... so...)

I bought a pair of them and they are perfect for a first pair. The reason why I bought them was because I didn't know about ESS and how cheap you can get them. Now I own a pair of ESS and Revisions.

Got a pair of revision desert locust for only 20 bucks! And I'll tell you they work amazing with the nonthermal lenses. I tested them out yesterday while plowing the snow and didn't have one issue with fog, which is pretty amazing if you ask me.

@thentantt - FYI, if you only paid $20 for new ones, then you probably got knockoffs.

@EMO - A lot of the "revision" goggles you see on airsoft sites are knock-offs.

You definitely got knockoffs then. If they were the real deal, CC's would have doubled the price and told you they stopped bullets from hitting your head.

I have worn both and have had long conversations with the Revision owner every year I go to SHOT. While they make good goggles, I am not impressed with my revisions. I fog them just by putting them on. I have nothing but issues when I apply CAT CRAP and again, I tell the owners every year I am at SHOT.

My ESS Goggles have NEVER failed me. But I also have thermal lenses and I also add CAT CRAP to the inner lens. I also have a pair of the fans and swear by them. I also used to wear the Advancer V12's. Those never gave me any issues and when they did, ESS was more than happy to replace them for me for FREE. Revision was not that easy to deal with.

Just my experience with them. But both companies do make decent goggles. I just prefer ESS.
