Castle Nut removal

Post by RichXIV » Sun Jun 01, 2014 5:37 pm

Hey All,

Newbie here. This is my first post...

I have purchased a G&G/Combat Machine M4 and I'm having the hardest time removing the Castle nut so I can replace it with one that will accommodate a single point sling. I've put it in the vice and still couldn't get it to loosen! I just bent my wrench trying again and have only succeeded in scratching the tube! Has anyone had any success in getting these off? Is there a secret? Any ideas? I'm thinking I'm going to have to seek out the help of a gunsmith...
Thanks!

Heat...
I rather use a "nightmare" that shoots like a dream over something that looks like a "dream" but shoots like a nightmare.

Don't fear the gun...fear the one that's wielding it!

Are you using an Airsoft Castle nut wrench or a real AR tool?

Thanks for the reply!

Heat, but how to apply it? I have no experience with that. As for the wrench, I didn't know there was a difference. I'm assuming it must be the airsoft variety. It wasn't very expensive. I found it and the new castle nut online...

Heat via a blow torch and don't hold it on the AEG.

However, since you have not worked on an AEG before...I would send it to someone that knows how to do it before you do some serious damage,.

Are you sure that the castle nut actually comes off? Some airsoft buffer tubes just have fake castle nuts and threading on them but are actually a single piece of cast metal. I know my TM buffer tube is like that, not sure about G&G though.

Did you get a real-steel or airsoft sling mount? Some airsoft ones are designed to slip over the upper receiver extension rather than the buffer tube itself, making removing the castle nut unnecessary.

Clark, you were correct. The nut was the non-removable variety. Thanks for the info...
