M4 hop up creep

Post by Rabid-Weasel » Mon Mar 10, 2014 8:12 am

I am wondering what the best way to stop the hop up wheel from backing off. It's a G&P one piece metal hop up unit. I already tightened the screw to no avail. Would a small o-ring between the wheel and screw head be the best solution or is there something else I should do.

That or a spacer.

I let some rubber cement dry on the back of the wheel and then put it back on.
I rather use a "nightmare" that shoots like a dream over something that looks like a "dream" but shoots like a nightmare.

Don't fear the gun...fear the one that's wielding it!

An oring won't work. It's too elastic and pulls the dial back as you attempt to adjust it. Put some thread lock on the screw and tighten it down so the dial won't spin. Then barely back the screw out so the dial spins but is still difficult to adjust. Let the thread lock cure.

If that doesn't work, try a lock washer combined with some thread lock, similar to this:

Today's problems cannot be solved if we still think the way we thought when we created them.

get a pro-win or similar style hop-up unit... looks like this:

It has an o-ring that goes underneath the adjustment wheel which keeps it from spinning. also, because the wheel is larger Diameter you get finer control over how much hop you are using.

If you can't tighten the screw tight enough to get the wheel to stop moving you can shorten the post with a dremel. This way you can do what ispark suggested.

Gear shim under the screw, but on top of the adjuster wheel works pretty well.
Sometimes a small o-ring will work, but shims are better.
