Who can be a sniper?

Post by supper800 » Thu Aug 02, 2012 12:25 pm

I read through the rules for a sniper, and I just wanted to make sure I had this right. I want to bring my buddy with to the game this Saturday. He's 18 and uses a sniper. He doesn't have to be a MAA member to be a sniper correct? And also, on the restrictions on how many snipers there are, is there any way you prioritize who gets to snipe? Ex. those without backup AEGs to use would get to play sniper vs those who have AEGs to use.

You've read this topic? viewtopic.php?f=9&t=15632

It all comes down to how fast his rifle is shooting. Is it shooting over 450FPS or under?

If it's under 450FPS with .20g BBs then it does not matter, he's able to play with the gun in whatever manner he wishes. If it shoots over 450FPS then he would not be able to use it at an MAA game unless he is an MAA member.

It's over 450. I was just confused, and thought the "case by case basis" was he could play sniper but would just be watched. Thanks for clearing my confusion.

How sure are you its over 450fps?

Did you chrono it over a light chrono?

So say I use .40 gram bbs, and let's say I chrono 325...is that alright? Do i have to chrono with .20 when I'm at the field?

The MAA uses our own BBs to chrono the guns and they are .2g BBs.

A 425FPS Bolt Action Rifle shooting a .40 is just fine for now.

You will just be a regular player with a BA-R rifle.

Adding heavier BBs to lower muzzle velocity does not make a hot gun into a allowed gun. Ultimately what we are measuring is muzzle energy. The easiest way to do so is to use a known BB weight and specific muzzle velocity.

A gun shooting a .40 at 325 is too hot for an MAA event and therefore would not be allowed.

.20g BB @ 450FPS = 1.87 Joules (max allowed for MAA)
.40g BB @ 325FPS = 1.95 Joules (over limit)
