Sky diving

Post by elonaman » Wed May 25, 2011 12:11 pm

I was wondering if anyone here has gone skydiving locally and what companies are any good. A few buddies and I want to go and any prior experience with local companies including reputation and fees etc would be a great help. thanks.

Westside skydivers has both high altitude tandem jumps with an instructor strapped to your back to get a feel for it, as well as a AFP, Advanced Freefall Program.

If the fun of Airsoft is habitforming for you, be forewarned skydiving is even more so.
However the cost is somewhat prohibitive unless you join a club and own your equipment.

I haven't gone locally, but I went here in MD two weeks ago. There are apparently a lot of sky-diving related scams floating around, so I recommend you find a DZ with the U.S. Parachute Association's DZ locator here.

I'd recommend starting with a tandem jump for sure. The training takes about 10 minutes and all you have to do is hang there and enjoy.

I jumped a few years back at a place called Sky Dive Twin Cities: http://www.skydivetwincities.com/

The drop zone is located in Baldwin Wisconsin and I have nothing but good things to say about the venue/staff. Like I said, it has been a few years and it looks like the price has gone up a bit since I went. I went with a larger group and I want to say they gave us the option to take a larger plane that was able to reach higher altitudes...meaning longer free fall.

I wanted to document the experience, so for a few more bucks they took a roll of 35mm pic's and VHS video tape....that shows how long ago this was :D

I would check them out...

From what I've heard a lot of sites for jump places that don't really exist (just get your deposit), some Groupon-type scams, and the like.
