Osama Bin Laden is... dead?

Post by Ground Robin » Sun May 01, 2011 9:55 pm

So I've been hearing a crap ton of rumors that Osama Bin Laden is dead. I've tried looking up articles online but for some reason the pages never load. Read something about the President also addressing the Nation tonight on this issue. I know there are people on this forum that probably know if these rumors are true or not. So... Is he really dead??

It's pretty bad when fox can't spell Osama right. They spelt it Usama

101st Airborne recovered his body, it's him! IDK if they were the ones who killed him, or just recovered it, but we do have it.

Instead of guessing...why don't we wait for the "official" announcement on how and when.

All that is certain is that pakistan has mud on their faces...

Modern Media has this nasty habit of Making Chit Up. Fox is no exception...by misspelling Osama's name, it shows a lot of a lack of detail in a News Agency where the 1-Minute Rule could have fixed this error.

As the days will pass more details will come out. At this time I think its SPEC OPS that got him, not the 101st.

Well, the official announcement didn't give many details other than it was a CIA op. Drone strike would certainly follow the CIA's MO, but anything is possible.
Larzon wrote:It's pretty bad when fox can't spell Osama right. They spelt it Usama
I've seen "Usama" multiple times before, while "Osama" is the more commonly accepted Roman spelling, either could be right. His proper name is Arabic (أسامة بن محمد بن عوض بن لادن), which does not use the Roman alphabet, so there really is no "right" spelling of his name.

No joke, there are THOUSANDS of facebook items regarding Osama's death. Of course, I will wait until it has been officially announced that eh body they have is 100% Osama.

Wolf is making Chit up too. How are you going to realistically do a DNA match at the scene??? Its not Star Trek. However...he was most likely killed a day or so ago...and then they may have done the DNA stuff when they brought the body back. But, remember he is a very distinct figure. 6'4" and with bone structure like that....he is easily recognizable.

They just Said Navy SEALS and they have been practicing this raid for awhile too...are the SEALS under JSOC

How can you believe a Wiki entry that was just posted there?

Incomplete....they did not even post the right city....someone was filling in Chit as they heard it.

Also...they originally went in and tried to extract him...not kill. Osama is a far bigger prize if you can put him on trial for the whole world to see and not just pop a bullet in his head. He was most likely killed by his own people or he took his own life and we just got the body.

This is info from a more legitimate source....not the news media.

I posted the Wiki article so people could find out what JSOC was. There are other sources supporting that JSOC were the ones that pulled the trigger. Most likely it was DEVGRU who got the shot off, though. Here is one article supporting this.

If that were the case why would Obama be making a speech at midnight? I imagine if this were several days old, they would have planned a press conference at a more convenient time. My assumption is that this is a rather recent event.

Anything out there right now in terms of who did what or when is going to be 90% speculation. Obama specifically mentioned the CIA as being involved, so I would guess that information is rather accurate, but anything beyond that is simply guess work - educated or not. I would think SOCOM being involved would make sense, possibly SEALs, but who knows? A CIA missile strike with the 101st going in to recover the body is equally plausible. I'll wait for the real story to come out ... if it ever does ...

You need to stop taking everything in the media "literally".

Is your dad former spec op? The guy sitting behind me is...and he knew about this YESTERDAY.

You need to information like this on Wikipedia...with a lot of salt.

My dad's not former Spec Ops, he's former Army Aviation. However, I have a former Ranger told me about the JSOC contribution. I don't take anything in the media literally.

I can trump your Ranger with a Green Beret that is banned from going anywhere near the former Eastern Bloc.

Yeah...my Army dude is bigger then your Army dude and he sits next to me.... :P

In seriousness...

He told me something big was going to be announced in the next few days (yesterday)...and he has details that the press is barely getting right now....interesting.

LOL Well though I may disagree with your statement about our "Army dudes", I still find it believable at this point that JSOC (possibly DEVGRU) were the ones who got the kill shot.

Is it really necessary to get into a pissing contest over this?

Here's a good article that pretty well lays out the facts that have been confirmed without making any assumptions or doing any guessing: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/02/world ... ed.html?hp I eagerly await reading more about this in the next few days once the hysteria dies down and more facts some to light. Even believable speculation is still speculation, and I just don't see the point.

I'm telling you...they were not there to KILL him...it was an extraction mission. They (Osama's people) did him in. The "Grape Vine" knew he was there and they tried to bring him out...but it failed. So they just got the body.

The photo is from CNN iReport, so:
iReport is the way people like you report the news. The stories in this section are not edited, fact-checked or screened before they post.
Basically, someone just uploaded that themselves and it did not actually come from CNN.

Not a suprise, I suppose. I still want to see a body though. I'm sure somebody will leak it. So I've only got two questions left-

What's Pakistan gonna do, since we found Osama on their doorstep?

What hillarious crazyness is Alex Jones going to spit? lol

Doorstep???

Heck...no...he was in a "Guest House" in the backyard of all their retired Military Generals...

From my little birdy.

- Happened a week ago
- Delay in announcement likely caused by DNA verification
- Helo-borne assault straight onto the roof of the compound
- US unit involved reported by CNN as "Navy SEALs" operating out of Afghanistan
- Zero US casualties
- Mentions several indicators as to why the subject premise came under suspicion... one of the largest dwellings in the area, no garbage collection at the house - ever - they burned ALL household trash. No phone or net connection to the house. Couriers seen at odd hours. Well, that's the public version anyway and the full story should NOT be made public for a while.
- Paki .gov had been previously warned that if int suggested that bin Laden was in a specific area at a specific time, the US WOULD interdict regardless of diplomatic niceties. Pakis fell in line in this instance and played along.

Shock&Awe wrote:HA! I called it! It was DEVGRU/SEAL Team Six who got the shot off on him! My Navy friends are going to be gloating to me about this for years to come.
And this proves what exactly? This group is the same as most other military units, except they get nicer stuff, they get payed more, and thier missions come from the head honcho, the president himself.

Also, if they are so tacticool and L33t, how come none of them tried to subdue Osama instead of blasting him? I'll have to agree with Guges on this one, Osama's followers probably shot the guy before they left. And from the pictures, those powder burns look like they would hurt, so the shots were close, AKA Execution style. Does this mean Devgru was standing over Osama went they fired thier weapons.........

The world will never know. BTW, anyone know yet how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop?

If this IS Osama Bin Laden, great! And congrats to ALL of the people who participated in the attack. Im not talking to just the DEVGRU team itself, but also the mission controllers, the helicopter pilots who inserted the team, and the rest of the support staff that made this OP go well.

But this doesnt mean the world is all butterflies and daisies now. There are still terrorists, there are still civil wars, and unfortunatly, our own fractured economy wont say "Great, Osama is dead. Now i can go back to being rich now."

My congrats to whoever got this guy.

If it was Seal Team Six then; " The only easy day was yesterday ... today"

For having paid off the Paki's close to ten billion dollars over ten years they should have gift wrapped the son of a *****.

Everyone CTFD. Seriously, I was excited, we all were excited last night, since it was mostly speculation. No need to go internet bashing on me for expressing interest in who pulled the trigger on the relevant topic.

People can now pretend they're Navy SEALS.
