Yay, another airsoft version of a gun that doesn't exist in he real world.

I might consider one for a sci-fi set up but that's it.

I'll echo tank on this. If someone would make a real one, great, I would have to start considering whether or not it is better than a P90. Without a real counterpart, it is interesting still, but not worth considering for purchase.

it had a real version. it was a prototype built by magpul around the same time as the FPG and the .308 version of the ACR, also known as the Masoud. All of these guns were planned, had functional prototypes built and tested, and then shelved them....

There has never been a functional prototype of the PDR. It was purely a concept gun.

That was pretty much my reaction. I really wanted to like the P90 more than I did, but once I got my MP5 its usage days were dead and gone. The PDR appears to be everything bullpup I like from the L85 while adding things I always wished they had, like the M4 placement mag release.

A new Red Wolf video says this should be coming in January.

I like the P-90 in feel, but i hate reloading with it and I didn't want to have to get even more magazines. The PDR solves both those problems for me, because it uses the same magazines I already have a ton of, and the reload is very similar to my FS-2000 that I use for a real-steel rifle, so no foul there.

What I do like is that they made it a quick-change spring system.

I guess one thing I'd be concerned about is the trigger mechanism. Ares is the OEM from what I've heard, and they'll probably use the microswitch with trigger rod a la Tavor. Which has had several complaints. Also, I'd be worried about its hinge system, as it seems kinda dinky. But otherwise, looks cool.

Yes I agree, and I do have a P90. Finally, something that is both Magpul and more effective than a P90. I love mine, but trying to use it without a box mag is simply a waste of time, and most people don't like the box mag look, let alone the fact that some fields don't allow it.

Technically the video said it could use an 11.1v, not that they were actually using one for the demonstration. Another video showed a similar rate of fire, and explicitly stated it was on a 7.4v. If that is the case, it should not be difficult to get the RoF you want.

I've wanted one of these since KWA announced them. Then again, I'm the kinda guy who would buy the Magpul-ed AK from JG.

ROF isn't a terribly big issue to me, but if the accuracy is up to par or easily upgradeable and there aren't any major reliability issues right off the bat well..

Internal pics are in this thread. Nobody seemed enthusiastic about the feed tube, though. Also, apparently the trigger rod mech has the same failures as the Tavor.

Imagine a Polar Star GB in one of these.

Sad they can't have G&P or VFC source the internals.

I will probably suck it up and buy one to satisfy my bullpup / PDW hunger. And because AR mags.

So here she is. I do not yet have a battery that will fit, so I did not get to deploy it at Military Games. It comes with a metal flash hider and one of those mock Magpul 5.56 rounds. First impressions are positive, though there are a few points where I actually prefer the UAR. The mag release is quite stiff, and none of the three mags I tested dropped free on their own. I also found myself wishing the top rail was raised like the UAR. My red dot was usable, but doing so was not as comfortable as I would have liked.

If the UAR internals are not garbage, it will probably be a competetive alternative to the PDR at about half the price.

Re: Magpul PDR

Here is my shooting review:
Earlier today, I hooked up the PDR to a 9.6 volt mini NIMH battery (Hooked it up, and held the battery to the side). I have to say, so, far, this gun has EXCEEDED my expectations! :D.

I chrono tested it, and it seems to shoot consistently around 350FPS on .2s, and around 330 on .25s.

One thing that I was surprised about is that with every different type of mag that I tested it with (New KWA Midcaps, Metal MAG 190 round MIds, G&G 450 round highcap, cheap chinese highcap, and the magpul magazine it came with), it fed like a champ. HOWEVER, it did not want to seat my Metal mag 190s properly, but, these are known to be rather finicky with some guns.

As far as the mag release, yeah, it is a little bit stiff, but very stiff. The only mags that I had a genuinely hard time getting released once they were locked were highcaps. The best performing magazine with the PRR, by far, are the new KWA Midcaps :D. They seat with ease, lock in tight, and feed to the last bb.

Firing this gun is a lot of fun. The Semi is crisp. On full auto, with the 9.6, I would estimate its rate of fire in the 20-25 rps range. The only thing that may throw people off, and may take a little bit of time to get used to is the trigger. For those that don't know, the end of the trigger is hinged. if you want to fire in semi, you only pull the front portion of the trigger. If you pull the lower portion of the trigger, it starts to fire in full auto. A cool part about this is that, if you pull it right, you can effectively get the gun to burst fire. This morning alone, I probably fired a few hundred bbs out of it (into a target in my room), and it has had no significant issues.

For build quality, I am really impressed. The body seems to be made out of the same strong polymer most of the Magpul guns are made out of. It is very sturdy, and you can tell that by both the feel and the weight. It is still a light gun, but, you can also tell that, if magpul wanted to, they could have made it out of a lot lighter, cheaper materials.

Now, as Rabid's post kind of joked about, some people may probably wonder "How does this gun compare to the P90". Which is a better CQB gun? Faust, you are going to hate me for saying this, but, in my opinion, the PDR is better. And this is coming from someone who has, and still does, like the design of the P90. The biggest reason for me why this is better is simply that it takes M4 mags, even the midcaps. Heck, it seems to work better with certain mids. Also, I think this gun also is better in the area that makes the P90 so appealing to certain people. The PDR is actually more compact than the P90 is. In length, it is about the same, but, in width, the PDR is actually about an inch thinner from what I can see. What is probably the biggest thing going against the PDR though is the battery compartment. It is SO SMALL. I am probably going to have to do some testing on certain types of lipos to find out what the best size for the gun is. On the other side though, one thing that is really going for the PDR is the front ambidextrous mag release. I assume that this gun is as easy to fire left handed as it is right handed.

To Rekkon's point about the rail, yeah, it is a bit low, but, I also understand why it is. They wanted to make this gun as compact as they could, and, in my opinion, they succeeded :D.

I still have yet to field this, but, I will update this once I do

So, with all of that said, do I recommend this gun? That depends. If you have the money sitting around for it and the lipos you will need for it, want an awesome CQB gun, and are lucky enough to get in on any of the current preorders that are going around for it, I would say YES. I would probably get the order in for it sooner rather than later though, since they seem to be having problems keeping up with demand. It may take you a month, or three, to get it  .

I did not have any problem removing magazines either. My disappointment was that they did not drop free on their own. For me, the biggest draw of the forward release was to do the M4/16 style reloads where you hit the release with one hand while the other is already going for the next mag. If I need my off hand to remove the empty magazine, there is no real advantage over my L85s. Obviously this is a not a huge issue since we tend not to let our magazines hit the ground in airsoft, but it would have been nice to have the option, especially for CQB.

I am dying to get a pdr, just waiting on funds. That grip extension is a great idea, although I doubt I would use the rail version, so I will order the vented one.
