Turning an AK into a Saiga [ I FINALLY DID IT ]

Post by Slipmad » Wed Aug 01, 2012 6:12 am

oh hai there comrades

so i am buying an AK soon off my buddy Calliton soon and i am turning it into an Airsoft Saiga 20

here is essentially the base gun
Image

and here is what i am going to turn it into (hopefully)
Image

i know its the Bad Company 2 version of the Saiga 20, but i think this is the sexiest, i have the top rail mount from a G36c LPEG for the front

any other suggestions on what to do to do this? i already have a real steal shotgun forend coming in for the handle, but what else?

im gonna have to suggest don't do it... if youre 17, i'm going to have to assume that you don't have access to proper equipment, funds, or experience to make a worthwhile attempt at this... But i could be wrong. Just a few things i could point out off the bat that would really flush the idea for me would be that the mag well/entire body, bolt, and barrel length/diameter are not the same. so this would be an over-hall just to get into the city where the ball park is...

I agree... put your time and money into something that is actually worthwhile. Like making a good rig. or making the gun into a superior AEG. Or going to a big event (there are quite a few coming up). Or anything else really.

That looks like a pretty nice AK; it'd be a shame to break a perfectly good, working AK.
Maybe think about moding the gun after something breaks (you'll have a lot less to lose)
my $0.02 ...er my suggestion. :)

Honestly, if this is your Only Functioning AEG...don't mess it up...

yeah i know it is gonna be hard, and i do have the funds in which to do most of it. and i do have a lot of the tools i need to make this happen. now i am 100% aware this isnt going to be completely perfect but getting it somewhat close to look like one is going to be a complete and total accomplishment for me, but it might turn out bad and it might turn out awesome, i wont know unless i take a chance

And that's totally up to you. I was just putting in my 2 cents. you did ask for suggestions. Well although our level of standards are different, best of luck to you and i hope for your sake you have more than just a dremel kit.

ps: i... you know... that... ... ...nevermind.

This seems to be about what you want to do. Unfortunately, there was only one of these made, and it was made by a team of professional techs at Redwolf Airsoft.

You could buy a real Saiga and dream about playing airsoft with it while at the range...

After 4 years i finally got around to doing it. This is just the first attempt at it which, in my opinion doesn't look too bad. I'll add more to it over time but here she finally is.
