Magazine Sizes, Airsplat, ASGI, AMS is messing it up!

Post by Guges Mk3 » Thu Jul 29, 2010 4:02 pm

Okay Airsoft Magazine Primer.

Lets give credit where credit is due.

-> Tokyo Marui <- started the AEG craze, so lets give them the credit.

TM made most of their AEG magazines in two formats. Standard and Hicapacity.

Standards are spring fed magazines of a fixed capacity.

By default, anything with a wheel on the bottom is a Hicap. Thus a AK Beita magazine is also a Hicap at ~250 rounds.

TM AR/M4/M16/CAR15 Standards held 68 rounds.
TM AR/M4/M16/CAR15 Hicaps held ~300 rounds.

TM G3 Standards Held 70 Rounds
TM G3 HighCap held ~500 rounds

TM P90 Standards Held 68 Rounds
TM P90 HighCap held ~300 rounds

TM AUG Standards Held 80 Rounds
TM AUG HighCap held ~330 rounds

TM AK Standards Held 70 Rounds
TM AK HighCap held ~600 rounds

TM G36 Standards Held 50 Rounds
TM G36 HighCap held ~470 rounds

TM MP5 Standards Held 50 Rounds
TM MP5 HighCap held ~200/240 rounds

TM SIG Standards Held 60 Rounds
TM SIG HighCap held ~220 rounds

And so on, and so on.

This is Not a Midcap -Airsplat

JG G3 Airsoft AEG 70 Mid-Cap Magazine - It's a STANDARD
Item Code: ER-G3-JG-MI-MAG

Rather this is a Midcap - CA 120
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This is not a Midcap - AirsoftMega Store

Airsoft KS-90/P90 Mid-Cap 68-Round Magazine - It's a STANDARD
For Echo 1, JG, KS, AGM, Tokyo Marui and CA KS90/P90 Metal Gearbox AEGs

Rather this is a Midcap - MAG 170
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This is not a MidCap = ASGI

Tokyo Marui AUG 79rds Mid Capacity Magazine
[K300501308]

Its a TM....its a Standard for Golly sakes!

Rather this is a Midcap - KA 110
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

By definition in Airsoft, a Midcap is a magazine that holds a bb amount in the middle between a standard and a highcap. Middle = Mid.

There are also magazines that are spring fed of a capacity lower then the standards. These are "Real", for Real Capacity Simulation.

The reason why I am putting this up is due to a deal from a new player who insisted he was selling a box of Midcapacity magazines for the G3. I went, oh cool...G3 mid caps are rare. Then I get them in and it turns out they are 70 round Standards! By no error of the person that was selling them, because the site he got them from called them Midcaps.

mumble...grumble...

Okay, I feel much better...did you new guys learn anything?

Yes, I did learn, thank you for the history on magazines and which capacities are considered standards and which are mid caps.

And they think their right because the retailer listed it as such.

Weird, I've always thought of magazines this way because I never really even mention low-caps because when your G3's (both of them mind you) shoot 25-30 rps you go through a 20 round real-cap in under a second and MID caps are in the MIDdle of the common AEG magazine spectrum. Finally, Gugers are there any G3 mid's other than KA? I blow through standards way to fast.

Hey, at least you haven't had anyone calling 'midcaps' for an LPEG "caps" yet.

Eh, this is all too complicated for me. My rule of thumb is-

If it winds, It's a hicap.
If it feeds bbs through a loader, and has more than 30 rounds, it's a midcap
If it has the same amount of rounds that the real firearm does, it's a realcap.

Then what's a Standard?

Anything that doesn't wind and holds LESS than 100 rounds should be considered a standard.

I don't use standard, although sometimes i'll interchange it with realcap.

Luckily, I don't buy TM standards, so I can call my mags midcaps all I want.

Every company that copies TM has standards...they don't call them midcaps.

Only the screwed up retailers do.
