FREEFALL V: Planning

Post by THE ARCHANGEL » Mon Jun 13, 2011 10:03 am

A lot of people have been talking about Freefall and wondering what the status is of a MAA/MN group. Discussing it with Irish and others at the June 11 Open Session we decided it's time to really time to organize this as the game is essentially 1 month off and people should start getting ready if they haven't already.

First it should be noted that many of us going have already decided we are playing the Browncoat angle. As in we were Browncoats or supported them during the Independence war. This is by no means what every one else should do but as you are working out what your character will be just be aware of that.

What we really need to know is who is really serious about the game? Who is seriously planning on going? If you have decided that, have you started to think about your character?

What matters here is if we can get a sizable group to attend Freefall as an organized unit we can either ask the Organizers if they want us to play a roll or as a large group to be reckoned with we can make a run at some of the key locations in the game right off the bat. I don't want to get into too much until we see how many players we may have attending. We can get into rules, roleplaying, Nerf, etc, later....

So....are you fairly certain you are going to Freefall? If so, what kind of character are you planning to play?

I have already taken the days off of work for it! :D. i am planning on being a Freelance/Mercenary for hire. I will likely be talking to the rest of Vendetta about forming a Merc Group. If the large MAA Faction is formed, our "sympathies" could be with the large group.
PS: i have noticed that there has not even been a thread posted on the Wisconsin forums for it. I suppose nobody has put much focus on this as of yet.

Yeah, I assume Breedland was taking all the focus and with that done everyone needed a breather. The site has been slow to update but I imagine we'll be seeing something soon. Airsofter's have trouble planning past the next immediate event.

I know DZX was also planning on a small independent team as well....perhaps with sympathies towards us....

I am attending of course, though I have my own established faction to run. We are no friends of the Alliance, so more browncoats in the area might be mutually advantageous.

Working on trying to figure out what all I need for gear and getting the time off. Other then that I am in. I might be only attending one out of state game this year and would really like this one to be it.

And i would be all for a larger group. We would just have to come up with a solid name and backstory. As of now, i have two others coming with me, and we would be down to start our own faction.

Re: FREEFALL V: Planning

I was trying to come up with a back story and also a load out. What I have pretty much came up with so far is:

I'm a merc contractor that is going against the alliance as they have screwed me over too many times and have not always came through with their payments. The alliance has never known my name, I have always just been a face in the crowed. When ever they have needed me they just called me up and I was there to take care of what the objective was, taken the money when I was actually paid and left the area only to be called again later.

I'm currently thinking I will be going with a contractor load out. Not sure if I will be going with Tan and black or possibly some other type of load out. That is still undesided. I believe I may be running an m4 with a drop leg for more mags and a drop leg for a pistol. As of right now that is what I am thing I might go with, don't really have the time or money to be purchasing too many items just for this game.

There were a LOT of mercs the last two years. I am not saying do not go as one, just be aware that the place will be crawling with them, all looking for the same work. Most of the players just looking for trigger time run as mercs, which makes for all kinds of fun when an excess of heavily armed folk get bored.

I just got approved for the time off so I will for sure be attending.

As for going the Merc route. Although I plan on going the contractor route and plan on carrying a weapon or two on me, personally I am going to do my damnedest not to use it. I think my back story could work with out actually going down the full Merc route. Just need to keep my ears clean and my eyes open for when a fire fight breaks out.

I plan on mostly being a criminal to get started, a highwayman so to speak. If a trigger job comes along cool but I will have my own motives and goals. When going into that line of work, its a good idea to have some one strong backing you. I will be pro independance.

If I go, I will not identify myself with any team.

My story, as of now is simple. The Alliance killed my family, and I'm out for revenge. I will do whatever possible to throw all sorts of wrenches into the Alliance's activities during the game.

still working on the rest of my plot. My unifrom will be simple. DCU bottoms, a black shirt on top, with a battle belt with suspenders. Running my PDW as my primary.

EDIT: For my connection to the larger group as a whole, Im gonna say I fought alongside all of you in the war as a Browncoat. Also, If any of you who are older than me would volunteer, I need a family connection to make my role that much more solid (Like an uncle, cousin, godfather, etc......)

well, after some talking, i have devised a new back story. kind of an Indigo Montoya/ Punisher/ v for vendetta story. My group of fighters are going to be radical browncoats, with our only drive being the seeking of vengance for the abandonment of our colony, and the death of our family/friends/loved ones. I am personally planning on being the V/punisher character. one who is driven only by vengance, and that feels he has nothing to lose, as i have already lost the most, and will stop at nothing to find the alliance officer who ordered the abandonment.

im hangin with Sharpshot and his team... i have come up with a really good back story that ties in with theirs. I am a former alliance officer, who worked for the command officer of a colony. after all of his ruthless killing of colony members, i offered to help 'browncoat' rebels to eliminate him. before the plan could happen, the officer shot all of his crew, including me, and made his escape to an orbiting cruiser. once on the cruiser, he ordered the whole colony destroyed... so, being left for dead, and recovered by my father and the rebel team i was helpin, i have turned to the rebels to help them track down the alliance officer that destroyed everything...

I am also with Sharpshot. I am "Shepherd Tamarack" the religious leader of the colony. I did not believe in taking up arms against the Alliance and even welcomed the "Unification" because I felt it would end the loss of life. After my entire flock was killed and my son (Daishido - who knew? ) was severely wounded in the Alliance's attack, I vowed to take up arms to protect others from evil. I have now joined my son and the other rebels to seek vengence on the Alliance officer responsible for the loss of my flock.

Still working on clothing, gear, and weapons for my character. Of course, a "book of scriptures" will be part of it.

With our back story, there is one other person we need to make it work. We need a "count rogan" (person whom we are after). If anyone here would like to volunteer for this here is what we need:
1. Someone who is willing to be an Alliance officer
2. Someone who is willing to be the one person whom a group of at least 6 people wants to kill above all else
3. Someone whom will likely end up dieing in the end
4. Someone whom is willing to endure a duel, with the phrase "hello, my name is so and so, you let my friends and family be killed, prepare to DIE" thrown at them. (this one may vary)

On a more serious note: I have to admit I am not "NERF" savy. That said I have looked at numerous NERF guns at several stores. Two things I noticed right away is 1) there are both "manual" and "battery operated" models - which one is better for this game?; and 2) there are 4 different types of darts used by different guns (regular foam dart, whistler darts, suction cup darts, and dart tag darts) - which ones are "legal" at this event? Hope someone can help.

I do not think there are any NERF dart restrictions. Such weapons do not even have to be NERF brand.
STUNNERS
A stunner is a NERF or similar branded toy gun that shoots soft tip darts, foam balls, or similar safe projectiles. If a foam projectile strikes your body or equipment, you are considered KO'd. Stunners can be used in both the Free-fire area and Safe Zone. Stunners are the only projectile arms that can be used in the Safe Zone.
The importance of a NERF weapon depends heavily on how much shooting you plan to do in the safe zone. If you are going to live on the field, airsoft is king. If you are going to try to knock over the casino or something, you probably want something automatic and magazine fed. Plenty of people had NERF weapons last year. I think there were no less than four of the belt fed variety.

I decided to take the plunge, I'm registered.

Character wise, I am originally be from a Core planet, well educated (I'm thinking Doctor, Lawyer, or Banker type), and maybe some combative training (depends on the rest of my backstory). Since I want to play with the MN crew, the rest of my backstory I haven't finalized yet as I want it to logically tie into my association with the group of Browncoats that I will be running with.

If we are going to have our own group, it might be a good idea to create a private forum to discuss tactics in just in case passer's by happen to be of an opposing force.

Doctors get plenty of work. Any gunshot wound either kills you or requires surgery to remove. You will want to check with Gryphon ahead of time as I believe doctors have an additional set of rules to cover their craft, and he might limit the number of them ingame. Engineer could be another "educated" option. Vehicles need to be repaired and maintained, and engineers have their own rules to cover that as well.

I'm glad people are getting into this and I'm also working on a back story which should be fun as well as organizing my gear and getting hyped. The one thing I want to point out after reading info on the previous games as well as already what I am seeing on FB and other locations....is that there are a TON of 3-6 man merc teams. Mostly because that is what most groups of friends can get together. Those of you planning to do the same will be fighting for jobs and to stand out. That actually sounds like fun, this isn't a game where people "win" per se....you either live and make some money....or die....but I HAVE to point out that what there seems to be a lack of is large groups. Something to consider.

I will be opening a private forum by this weekend for registered players....

Well I finally got a hold of Gryphon, so all is well. An official post should be up on the WAA board soon.
