Voltage and motor speed/power?

So after recently discovering a bit more about electricity I got confused about how voltage relates to the functioning of a motor. Say you have an 8.4v battery (and this is a special battery with no internal resistance nor decreasing voltage). You hook a motor up to it and the magnetic fields of the...

Re: Physics project: Hop-up on a tennis ball?

I'm not sure I can make my arm accelerate as fast as 6-12 rows of tightly stretched surgical tubing. The ram will be made out of the lightest material I can find. PVC seems like it'd be a bit heavy, so I might try some kind of wood.

Re: Physics project: Hop-up on a tennis ball?

Maybe should have put a few more of the rules in here. It can't be a slingshot, and it can only be about 5ft high. Everyone usually makes a trebuchet or a catapult (tiny catapults powered by surgical tubing usually win) so I'm looking to do something a bit more interesting.

Physics project: Hop-up on a tennis ball?

For my high school physics class, we have a project where we make something to launch a tennis ball as far as we can, without using an expanding/compressed gases. I'm planning on basically making a ram. I'll have a tennis-ball-sized PVC barrel with a ram that goes into the rear. The propulsion will ...

It was just slow to start up. It was a really low capacity small type, so maybe that's the problem. Considering it'll be used with an 11.1v 5000mAh 20c lipo, should I still go for the G&P or should I find a neo?

Well maybe I won't have to worry with an 11.1v, but you could hear it start to wind up and pick up speed as you held down the trigger with an 8.4v. What's different about neodymium magnets? And do nimh/nicd batteries have C ratings or do they even have a C rating?

I was checking out multimeters and I realized that I have no idea what capacitance is. I looked up the definition but I don't understand it. How's it different than current and voltage? I mean all electricity is made up of current and its voltage. Why would capacitance have its own measure?

I might just take out the piston and cylinder and try that on its own, so gears won't be a problem. I don't need the cylinder to have magnetic properties, it's just to wrap the coil around. Maybe I'm confusing myself. When you say more teeth for torque, do you mean more teeth will bring torque, or more teeth should be used for a high torque motor?
